Service Learning Reflection
efficiently and effectively
In the Youth Development class of December 5th, eighth graders came to the reflection meeting of Service Learning for this semester in the Xian Mian building annex.
Presenters were nervous and excited to show everyone what they had done since the start of the semester. Eighth graders are teenagers, and learning about how to serve our community efficiently and effectively is appearing to be more and more important to them. In the past three months, quite a lot of service was done by numerous service learning programs.
There were seventeen presenters in total, and every one of them shared a distinct, yet captivating, experience. Elizabeth Y from 8(6) reflected about her job in the Powerlong Art Museum; Stella Pan from 8(8) shared her stories of making posters with friends. There was also the Tutoring Group, the Indigo Workshop, the Smile Charity Group, the CCST Group, and many more. Except for the on-campus groups, many groups are student-led and student-founded. There were a lot of intriguing ideas of how service can help group members, the school, and even society. The Video Studio that makes school-rule videos for primary students, introduced by Jessie from 8(5), have a lot of fun, and she also expanded on the studio’s future plans and possible improvements. Although the Dunhuang Culture Promoting Group founded by Maxwell from 8(3) had just started, he was also sure that all the students and teachers will enjoy and learn from the group’s future articles and videos about Dunhuang. The SHSID Futian Group presented by Ryan from 8(4) has done a lot of charity over the past weeks, and a lot of children will be benefited in the future. There were also Speak Up, the Student’s Academy of Science, Voice from Beyond, and etc.
This Service Learning Reflection activity isn’t just about introducing all the fun service learning groups, but also teaching each other how to service others more efficiently in the rest of academic life. This reflection might only be a tiny bit of activity in students’ lives, but what it brings to them and imprints on their hearts is unarguably worthwhile.
