That Day We Left Our Mark 那一天，我们留下了我们的印记

This week we celebrateFounders’ Week in honor of the day we first opened our doors on September 17, 1912.

这周，我们举行“创始人纪念周”活动来庆祝1912年9月17日上海美国学校的创立。

Maybe you’ve seen the building. It’s certainly noticeable. A red brick Victorian-style structure modeled after Independence Hall in Philadelphia, sitting amid the plane trees along Hengshan Lu. That building is the former administration building of Shanghai American School.

你也许看到过这栋建筑。它非常显眼。这栋红砖建筑以位于美国费城的独立纪念馆为原型，采用了维多利亚建筑风格，坐落在衡山路，周围长满了梧桐树。这栋建筑曾是上海美国学校的行政大楼。

But here’s the part you likely haven’t seen: On each side of the main gate entrance, there are two faded plaques. Each bears an inscription that’s so worn down by the elements, it’s barely visible today. One reads, “Shanghai American School.” The other reads, “Alumni Gate 1932.” Believed to be a gift from the Class of ‘32, these gates served as a welcome, protector, and occasional hurdle to our students when the school used the campus between 1923 and 1949.

但有一个细节是你可能没有注意到的：大门入口的两边各悬挂着一块褪色的牌匾。每块牌匾上都刻有文字，经过风吹日晒，这些文字几乎已经无法看清了。一块牌匾上刻的文字是“上海美国学校”。另一块则刻着“1932届校友大门”。这两扇大门应该是1932届毕业班赠送给上海美国学校的礼物。1923年至1949年，上海美国学校在这里开展教学活动，而这两扇大门则迎接以及保护着我们的学生，尽管有时候也会带来一些不便。

Today, as we celebrate Founders'Week 2019, we remain grateful to our alumni for the cultural artifacts they left us – even the ones that are hard to read.

现如今，随着我们迎来2019年创始人纪念周，我们对我们的校友留下的文化物件表示感谢——尽管有些难以辨识。
